Antonio Mazza is a Researcher at the National Research Council of Italy – Institute of Methodologies for Environmental Analysis (IMAA), Italy. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II in 2015 and 2017, respectively, and obtained his Ph.D. in Information Technology and Electrical Engineering in 2021, focusing on deep learning–based methods for remote sensing applications.
His research activity focuses on artificial intelligence and remote sensing for environmental and atmospheric monitoring. During his academic and research career, he has worked on several topics including NDVI reconstruction, forest classification, pansharpening, image super-resolution, cloud segmentation in Sentinel-2 imagery, SAR despeckling, and satellite-based air quality monitoring.
At CNR-IMAA, he is involved in the development of machine learning and deep learning methodologies for Earth observation and atmospheric applications. His recent activities include the development of AI-based approaches for PM2.5 estimation from satellite data over Europe and, within the ACTRIS Data Centre framework, the development of machine learning and deep learning methods for lidar cloud masking applications.
His research interests include deep learning, computer vision, Earth observation, environmental monitoring, atmospheric data analysis, and AI-based methodologies for remote sensing applications.
