Ceilometer Lufft CHM15k

The ceilometer Lufft CHM15k, in operation at CIAO since July 2023, replaced the old CHM15k model manufactured by Jenoptik running from 2009 to 2018 and not operational anymore. It is a two-lens bi-static ceilometer equipped with an eye-safe diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser transmitter, emitting light pulses at 1064 nm in near zenith direction, and  a photon counting avalanche photodiode to detect the light backscattered from the atmosphere and provide attenuated backscatter coefficient profiles used for unattended and continuous characterization of aerosols and clouds through the troposphere, as well as for the detection of fog and precipitation. The ceilometer profiles have high vertical and temporal resolution, typically 15 m and 15 s, and a maximum measurement range of 15 km for clouds.
